Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about membership, Direct Primary Care, insurance, appointments, and what to expect as an Anchor Primary Care patient.
-
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a simple, affordable model where you pay a flat monthly fee directly to your doctor—no insurance billing, no copays, no surprise bills.
Because you pay your doctor directly, it doesn't matter whether you have insurance, what kind you have, or whether you have none at all. Insurance simply isn't part of the equation—your care is between you and your doctor.
That monthly fee covers unlimited access to your physician, in person or by phone, video, or chat, with same- or next-day appointments, unhurried visits, and a doctor who actually knows you. Think of it as having a personal doctor on your side: accessible, affordable, and focused entirely on you.
-
Absolutely—in fact, you're exactly who benefits most.
The best care doesn't wait until something is wrong. If you want a doctor who helps you stay ahead of your health—managing blood pressure, optimizing your weight, catching concerns early—that's the heart of what DPC offers.
Your monthly fee covers unlimited access, so you can reach out whenever you need to, for whatever reason, without ever wondering whether it's "worth" a visit or a call. Preventive care, check-ins, medication adjustments, quick questions—it all comes with your membership. You're not paying per visit; you're investing in a partnership that keeps you well.
-
Your monthly membership covers unlimited primary care—in person, by phone, or by video—plus direct access to Dr. Raja between visits.
That includes preventive care, chronic disease management, and care coordination, along with the in-office and access benefits that come with membership.
Labs, imaging, and medications aren't included in the monthly fee, but as a DPC practice we can often help you get them at significantly reduced cash prices—frequently a fraction of what insurance-based practices charge.
-
No—and that's intentional.
At Anchor Primary Care, you pay your doctor directly through a simple monthly fee. No billing, no copays, no prior authorizations, no surprise bills.
That's exactly what lets us offer same- or next-day appointments, unhurried visits, and a doctor focused entirely on you—not on what an insurance company will or won't approve. We do encourage you to carry insurance for hospital stays, specialists, and emergencies. But for your primary care, it's simple: just you and your doctor.
-
Yes—we recommend keeping insurance for the things DPC doesn't cover.
Membership covers your primary care exceptionally well, but you'll still want coverage for hospitalizations, specialists, imaging, and emergencies.
Many members pair Anchor with a high-deductible, lower-premium plan—using their membership for everyday care and their insurance as a safety net for the big things. It's often a more affordable way to cover your healthcare overall.
-
Labs and imaging aren't billed through your membership, but we help you access them at deeply reduced cash prices.
As a DPC practice, we can often get you transparent, wholesale pricing—frequently a fraction of what insurance-based practices charge.
You'll always know the cost up front, with no surprise bills after the fact.
-
Not yet—but that's changing soon.
Under current Medicare rules, a physician who hasn't formally opted out can't offer membership-based primary care to Medicare patients outside of Medicare billing. Dr. Raja intends to opt out of Medicare, and once that's complete, we'll be able to welcome Medicare patients into membership.
If you're on Medicare or about to be, we'd still love to hear from you—reach out and we'll keep you posted, and help point you toward good options in the meantime.
-
With direct access to Dr. Raja by phone, video, or chat, a walk-in is rarely necessary.
Many concerns can be handled quickly and conveniently with a virtual or phone visit—no drive, no waiting room. But if you do need to be seen in person, just reach out and we'll do our best to get you in the same day.
For true emergencies, please don't wait—call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room.
-
Our goal is to make healthcare as hassle-free and convenient as possible. Life happens — and if something comes up, just let us know and we are happy to reschedule.
There are no penalties for cancellations. We simply ask that if you cannot make your appointment, you let us know ahead of time. A small $25 fee applies only if an appointment is missed without any cancellation or notice.
-
For true emergencies, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room — do not wait.
For urgent or non-urgent matters, members will have direct access to our team through several contact methods shared at the time of enrollment.
-
I am not available 24/7.
I'm a physician, a mother, and a wife, and I encourage my patients to protect time to rest, relax, and do the things that restore their health and wellbeing. It's only right that I do the same—it lets me show up fully present and attentive when we're together.
That said, during office hours you'll have direct, easy access to me. After hours, urgent concerns will be addressed when appropriate, and non-urgent messages are answered the next business day. And for any true emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
-
Yes—because good insurance and good access aren't the same thing.
Ask yourself a few honest questions. Can you reach your doctor directly when something comes up? Are you able to get an appointment when you actually need one—and more than that, be seen on time? Do you get more than a few rushed minutes together? Can you send a quick follow-up question without scheduling a whole visit? Do you know the price of a test before it's ordered, or do you sometimes get a bill for something you assumed was covered?
Insurance covers the cost of care. It doesn't give you time, access, or transparency. That's what membership is for—and it's why many people with excellent insurance still choose to have a doctor who's truly theirs.
-
Yes—as a primary care practice, some things fall outside our scope, and we believe in being upfront about it.
We don't manage chronic pain with opioids, prescribe chronic benzodiazepines, or provide disability, workers' comp, DOT physicals, or similar services. When something falls outside what we do, we'll always help connect you with the right specialist or resource.
-
You can cancel with a simple 30-day written notice.
Your membership and access to care continue through those 30 days, and your final payment covers that period. After that, your membership is closed with no further charges.
-
Yes, you are welcome to join Anchor Primary Care for primary care. Because our practice does not bill insurance, your membership is separate from your HMO plan.
Please note that we are not able to place referrals or order certain imaging or specialty services within HMO insurance networks. You will need to request the primary care physician within your insurance network for that.
